Trigger me, baby
What being triggered offers us and learning how to be uncomfortable
Dear reader,
What does it feel like in your body to be triggered? Over six years ago, I probably would’ve told you it felt unsafe, frustrating, risky, and maybe even dangerous. Thankfully: this is no longer the case.
I’ve really put attention on reworking my relationship to being triggered, and in the process have created deeper resilience in my life. Now, where I am in my body & soul feels like an open field, a readiness for what comes my way. I find that using the word ‘activated’ feels much more open, a value-neutral way to describe the sensations that come with triggers and agitation.
Now, I see triggers (or activation) as an offering, an invitation to step into a bigger & bolder version of myself — one that can heal and transform memories and moments that once stung.
